Several
years ago Bruce Moyer added an unusual entrance to his nursery. I like the way it welcomes
his customers by defining the entrance to his garden center. The new entrance conceals the
greenhouses and invites customers to come inside and relax.
The
covered area gives Bruce a great display area, a holding area for his carts, and gives
customers cover from an unexpected rain. If it is just a brief shower there is no need to
retreat to the car. Windows are not the type typical in a business and make one feel at
home. While the products displayed are suitable to remain outside normal wear and tear is
avoided in this covered area. The products remain in top condition until sold.
There
is also a small display area for concrete products. What is unique about this area is that
it is the back of the offices. Rustic panes are attached to the wall to give the effect of
windows. A roof gives the effect of a porch.
The
view from the entry area invites the customer to stroll into the garden center. The large
shaded area offers needed shade and relief in the summer. As the customer reaches the rear
of the garden center there is plenty of open area for sun loving plants. Greenhouses are
located to one side and connect to the shade area.
This
simple entry addition to Moyer Nursery sets it apart by "inviting" customers
into the nursery. Bruce and his employees keep the displays of plants interesting and well
maintained.
